Update on the Re-opening of Perth and Kinross Schools in August 2020
Staff across Education and Children’s Services have been working hard to develop models for re-opening our schools which comply with Scottish Government and Public Health guidance. I appreciate that following the issuing of school plans, this may have caused anxiety and concern among some parents and carers, which is understandable.
As you may be aware, the Deputy First Minister made a statement to the Scottish Parliament on 23 June 2020, which announced the aim that all children and young people should return to school full-time in August 2020. This is subject to progress continuing to be made in containing Coronavirus in Scotland. Therefore, current school plans will require to be adapted to take this announcement into account.
We are awaiting further information about some aspects of the revised approach, and this will be shared with you as soon as it is possible to do so.
If it is not possible to re-open schools on this basis in August, e.g. due to an upsurge in Coronavirus cases or change to national guidance, then schools will implement their contingency plans for pupils to return on a blended learning basis. It is our intention to continue work to ensure we maximise attendance for all children and young people at school should we need to adopt a blended learning model.
We will update you as soon as further information is available.
I would like to thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we prepare to re-open schools.
